I’m sick of fighting just to get even simple automated window geometries to work consistently and sanely with .

So I went back to the roots and discovered there is actually an now!

Perfect geometries. Everything under control. Lightning fast and light. And even sound is way better directly through ALSA.

Funny how it feels amazing for my computer to work for me again, instead of me trying in vain to work with it.

Tentatively agreed with my wife that I could install on her laptop…

Every time I use her laptop has the CPU usage running at >95%.
It’s a lower end laptop, maybe 3-4 years old but realistically it shouldn’t be grinding to a halt with light web surfing and streaming…

Any recommendations on the best Linux desktop for a beginner?

Hey Mastodon, I made you a TUI. works in and show images, navigate to links, search, and more stuff I'll eventually add down the line. I built this after the other two TUIs I found were either orphaned or just really behind on updates. pretty simple build that I've been working on when taking breaks from building my WM in the past week or so.

After that point, Microsoft will no longer use that key to sign the shim first-stage UEFI bootloader that is used by Linux distributions to boot the kernel with Secure Boot. But the replacement key, which has been available since 2023, may not be installed on many systems; worse yet, it may require the hardware vendor to issue an update for the system firmware, which may or may not happen.“

The first version of Ubuntu Linux 4.10, codenamed "Warty Warthog," and it was released on Oct/2004. Ubuntu brought the Linux desktop experience to many developers and IT folks for the first time espcially forlks coming from Win/NT/2000 days. They were an early distro to support ease of installation for proprietary firmware and drivers for network, wifi, and sound/video, and that made them very popular as compared to other distros. They also used to send discs by post.
