Dès 110€ pour un Fujitsu E736 avec une batterie état neuf (100€ si tu te fiches de l'état de la batterie). Si, comme moi, t'as juste besoin d'un matériel léger pour faire de la bureautique en terrasse, c'est top.

Et ça permet de financer des projets humanitaires, plutôt que de polluer avec des déchets informatiques tout pourris.

Der #Linux-Kernel hat so 1 Konfiguration „Anzahl der CPU-Kerne, die maximal unterstützt werden sollen“.
Weil der ursprüngliche Rechner (10 Jahre alt) nur 4 Kerne hat, und jeder weitere 8 kiB Kernelspeicher benötigt, habe ich das natürlich aus Optimierungsgründen auf 4 gestellt.

Jetzt habe ich das System auf einem Ryzen gebootet und muss mit 4 Kernen neu kompilieren, ehe alle 48 genutzt werden können 🙈⏳

People don't mention enough how seriously underrated #Apple Shortcuts is on #iOS devices including #iPhone and #iPad. It's so freaking cool and powerful, the things you could do with it for automations and on-demand actions.

You could seriously put/use it everywhere - on your homescreen as a widget, on the dedicated widget screen, in your control centre, and heck even as a 'context menu' option in your share sheet menu (which doesn't suck, unlike on #Android).

Oh, that's not even all - you could even trigger it via the plethora of #a11y options that you get on iOS/#iPadOS like Assistive Touch's gestures and even Back Taps. For instance, I tap the back of my iPhone twice to trigger a shortcut that launches #ShopeePay for quick QR payments, and triple tap to open #KDE Connect to transfer files/photos between my iPhone and my #Linux PC or Android phone.

I also have plenty of automations set up pertaining to Focus states - to set up a completely different environment on my phone, depending on if I'm working, off-work, sleeping, driving, etc. You could even set up different lock screens/home screens for each Focus state - of which, again, you could automate using Shortcuts.

This dude's video of using an iPad Mini, and the Shortcuts he'd set up to automate different 'environments' he's using his iPad for (i.e. at home, or in the car) is an interesting example - he'd set up a 'Driving Mode' Focus state with a dedicated homescreen and even split-screen app setup (i.e. Map & Music next to each other) that is automatically triggered as soon as his iPad is connected to his car stereo automatically via Bluetooth. His 'Driving Mode' Focus even adjusts the brightness levels and text size of the entire iPad UI for a better driving experience, and reverts automatically after he leaves his car.

Seriously, if you have an iPhone or an iPad, and you're not using Shortcuts for anything... you might as well use an Android phone/tablet.

De persoon aan de lijn was begripvol toen ik uitlegde dat ik geen gebruik van Apple en Google wil maken. Mij werd verteld dat het mogelijk is om hoge overboekingen ook in de winkel (kantoor) van de #ASNBank te doen. Dan moet je een id meenemen (rijbewijs voldoet niet) en dan kan het bedrag worden overgemaakt.

So, gestern wurde es ernst: Ich habe mich für #Linux Bazzite entschieden, einen Bootstick erstellt und den alten PC bespielt. Hat ewig gedauert, aber war wohl mein Fehler (von USB2.0 auf HDD..)

Heute sollte nun der neuere PC drankommen. Das Installationsprogramm von Bazzite hat meinen neuen WLAN-Adapter nicht erkannt, woraufhin der erste Start unvollendet blieb, weil ohne Internet nichts installiert werden konnte.

I wanna learn how to make my own installation media and allow for a Live USB for a custom linux distribution.

Anyone know how to do that?

...it's a skillset all onto its own.

(note: I've been using FAI but that ain't proper. I want to make it like a Debian or Ubuntu or Mint or Elementary installation ISO where it has a Live option as well as proper installation options like full disk encryption, keyboard layout, etc.)

3. Do not install things using Terminal to begin with. Show them the "app store". Most of my friends are running on their own with flatpaks and so on. One single person had issues with an application which was a quick fix.
4. Show the manuals, show the documentation. #linux distros, in general, have great self help.
5. Remember to let them take the OS tour, in particular on gnome.

After helping five friends in the last two months transition from #windows to #linux here are my thoughts:

1. Show case both #kde and #gnome before you pick it form them. 2/5 Decided to try KDE because it reminded them of Windows and the rest wanted Gnome because they where tired of windows UI
2. Do not fill their head with distros, go with one where it is easy to get support. I went with @fedora as it is the one I know best and like the resource for. So far only one has swapped (to Ubuntu)

Mmh… I do have a lot of devices I want to build my #homelab out of, however some are ARM-based and some really slow (old HTPCs). Does #Proxmox make sense here, or is there another good software for managing them (preferably with built-in backup features and stuff) with less overhead?

If the solution works with #Docker I'd be especially happy since I then can use #OpenSuse MicroOS as base system, which I'm rather familiar with. Just don't want a mess of manually administrated containers.
